PSA, CGC, BGS: Which Service Should You Choose?

A practical comparison to help you pick between the three main grading services based on card type, target resale market, and budget.

Choosing a grading service comes down less to personal preference than to the type of card, your target resale market, and your budget. Here’s how to decide.

If you’re aiming for maximum resale value: PSA

PSA remains the historical benchmark, especially in the US market, and carries the highest resale premium at an equivalent grade. It’s the default choice for a rare vintage card you plan to resell.

If turnaround and budget matter most: CGC

CGC generally offers shorter turnaround times and competitive pricing, with growing recognition across the market — including in Europe. A solid compromise for grading a volume of cards without waiting several months.

If you want maximum detail: BGS

BGS is the only one of the three that consistently provides four subgrades (centering, corners, surface, edges) alongside the overall grade, which particularly appeals to modern card buyers and the English-speaking market, where those subgrades get closely scrutinized.

An often-overlooked point: consistency across a collection

If you’re grading several cards from the same lot or collection intended for a bundled sale, sticking with one service across the board makes comparison easier for a potential buyer, rather than mixing PSA, CGC and BGS grades that don’t map exactly one-to-one.

Before you send your card in

A grading submission is final once the card is received by the chosen service — a counterfeit or an already too-damaged card results in a flat rejection, with no refund of fees paid. A prior check through our authentication service helps you avoid that costly outcome.
