Jungle and Fossil Price Guide: Current Market Value
The two sets that followed Base Set in 1999-2000 are still sought after, for good and bad reasons. A market overview of their current value.
Jungle (June 1999) and Fossil (October 1999) followed close behind Base Set. Less iconic, they remain solid sets for collectors, often with a more affordable entry point.
Jungle: watch out for the 1st Edition variants
Jungle has a quirk that complicates valuation: unlike Base Set, Jungle’s 1st Edition print run was proportionally much rarer, which creates a price gap that can look disproportionate compared to Unlimited. The set’s most sought-after holos remain Pikachu, Vaporeon, and Flareon.
Fossil: the “no-star” rarity confusion
Fossil introduced a three-symbol rarity system with an in-between tier (“no star” for certain non-holos) that still trips up plenty of buyers. The most sought-after pulls remain the Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno holos — the set’s legendary trio.
Why their value stays more stable than Base Set
Jungle and Fossil sold in larger quantities than Base Set at the time, which limits speculative spikes but also gives them a more predictable long-term value — an appealing profile for a collector just getting started.
A common trap: reprints and promos
Several cards from these sets were later reprinted in other products with a different set symbol. Always check the symbol printed in the bottom right of the card before comparing it to a price found online — comparing an original Fossil card to its reprint will throw off a valuation completely.
